Okay, so today while driving to work, I was stopped at a red light. Then suddenly I hear this honking. To my right I see this old lady walking across the street, on a red light. And this car was going straight through the road, in her path. No, she did not have alzheimers, or prob any other big illness. But why did she walk across on a red light when traffic was coming from both sides? She wanted to catch the Transit bus on the other side of the road. This women is crazy, I mean sure you don't want to wait for the next bus, but come'on, if your gonna illegally cross, do it when no cars are coming. I'm sure if you manage to catch the attention of the bus driver, he'll stop when he gets to your side of the road. She was not only risking her life, but everyone who's driving around her. I don't think she realizes how much affect it can cause to the driver if somone hit her. I have no problem with people illegally crossing, but what I do have a problem is forcing it. She did not run across to make sure she was not hit, no, she walked (or an ill-fated attempt at running). Be careful.

So I watched several moves this weekend. Daredevil, Goldmember, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, and Super Trooper. Daredevil was good I thought, but I can understand why critics gave it a low rating. They copied a lot of stuff from other movies, but all in all, I think it's still worth the money to see. The best part of the whole movie was Jennifer Garner, man she is hot. Too bad though. I can't tell you why, it'll ruin the movie. Goldmember was disappointing for me. I mean it was alrite, but I don't think it was anywhere as good as the other two. My Big Fat Greek Wedding was good I thought. I was laughing at so many scenes. The ending was kind teary, I almost cried. It was not sad-sad, but like happy-sad. You can understand if you watched it. But I must say, the DVD is bad. The special features sucked, and there was like hardly anything on it, it's not a bad buy, but it's not a great one either. my suggestion to buy it is a tossup. Super Trooper, you may not of heard of this one, because neither had I. It is totally a dumb movie, not worth buying or going to theatre, but then it's on dvd-video anyways. Was a funny movie, but if there is something better to watch, I'd watch that instead.

Went to the Raptors game last night too. It was rather disappointing actually. It was a great game actually, but the whole game we were chering for the Raptors to get 100 points. Because when they score 100 points, everyone get's free slice of pizza. We wanted the pizza, but the only scored 99 points. That totally sucked cause they missed several foul shots down the stretch. Vince Carter sucked all game, T-Mac was amazing. But again, was disappointing cause we wanted the pizza.

So there were so many people I knew at the Raptors game last night. So what happened was one of the guys we was with (Frank), he saw a girl he knew. They were talking while me and the the other guy we were with (Justin) were looking at the gift shop. So when we finished, we saw Frank talking, walked over, and he said "Do you know JG?" (name is abbreviated). So I said, hmm, sure, she's LG's sister. That was all I knew. I didn't really know JG, might of been introduced, but I can't be sure. I knew LG, but anyways, so here is my question, should I have said that. Of course it did not hurt, but was there any added value to it? I mean I did not knw JG. But I find that's always the case, I recognize someone but they don't recognize me. Of course in this case, we might not of been introduced before, but I just happen to know who she is by chance, because I have a thing for recognizing people. I totally believe in knowing who everyone is, whether they know me or not. That is why I knew who she was. So here is the thing, would you have said the same thing? I mean I didn't really know her, I could of just left it as a hi, and we go our separate ways. Probably not see each other again, which is why it did not matter. And even if we did see each other again, most likely situation is no hi, no nothing, because we really did not know each other. I don't know.

So Friday was Valentines day. You should read my last post if you want to know what I think of Valentines day. So I went to fellowship on friday, and it was good. A bunch of us were in this room before we started, and this girl says "Valentines is just this event Hallmark created." I immediately said to her and everyone is "That is totally not true. It's an event girls created". Do girls really think this, that it's a Hallmark event? Like come'on, this event it like totally about the girl and no one else. They like the attention, and this is why Valentines days exists. I remember this story that was told to me recently. I don't remember who it was, but it was so funny I have to share it. So this was back in High school I think. And you know, high school has all the ___grams events. You know, the Halloween-Grams, Christmas-grams, Easter-grams, and of course, the Valentines-grams. So of course, something some dumb girl came up with to get stuff. Anyways, so in highschool, it was like the "in thing" to do, give girls these holiday grams. And so this guy told me, once, he was giving them out, and one of his friends came to him and started yelling at him because she did not receive a Valentines-day gram from him. Hhhahahaha. Lighten up ladies, it's not a big thing. she was seriously mad at him so he says. So what, maybe he forgot, maybe he didn't want to, but it served the right purpose anyways, putting her in her place, saying "this holiday sucks. deal with it".

This post is long enough, my next one probably later today is about movies again, but this time talking about how all movies lately seem to be some biased genre for women. You'll understand my point.

Happy Valentines Girls

There, now for my unedited opinion. Valentines day is overrated, it's a day created by women so they can get some attention. It's just some dumb day some girls came up with because they were not being given enough attention of gifts, so they thought they needed some special day for it. Sure it works. Am I being biased, cause, wellI have no gf/wife, well no, I'd still think this. Will that stop me from celebrating with my gf/wife should I have one, probably not, cause MAYBE (crossing fingers so this is not true), they like the holiday.

So today at work, it was made official that the Toronto office has changed ownership, and there is some major reorganization within. We took down three flags, and put up one. I got news from my Team Leader that I will no longer be working under him, but under some other guy, which I find kind of sad. This Team Leader was great, he taught me lots, was so patient, and knew so much. He kind of welcomes me into his group, and I even went to a Christmas Party with some co-workers at his house. So now, I have a new Team Leader, I worked with him for a couple weeks ago when my Team Leader was away. He's alright, but no where near as good as good as my Team Leader. Anyways, I guess I'll be fine. I finally got two things working today, one thing I was working on for last few weeks and I was about to give up when it just happened, it just worked, don't know how, don't know why, it just does, and I don't question. So now we got new flag, new logo, new e-mail addresses, noew company, possibly new location (a move?), and I have a new Team Leader.

This weekend is the CCF retreat. I am not going, but in some ways I wish I was. I liked it a lot last year, but this year I don't feel right going, because I do not attend at all. I feel very disconnected from the group. I don't know half the people, and I hardly know what's going on. But I have found a good fellowship this year, and I am happy there.

So someone asked me yesterday whether I was going to "drop by" the CCF retreat. I thought to myself, I never even thought of that. So I was thinking to myself, it'd be nice to do, it's not too far (Guelph), but I still don't feel like I should. I think I'll feel even more disconnected from the group, since they probably all have groups, and I wouldn't. And people would be like, who is this stranger? But it's weird it never crossed my mind.

It's about 7 and a half months now until D-day. That's the day when I have to go back to school. I have many questions surrounding school issues, amongh then design project, whether I am in, where I am going to live, etc etc. I wish life was easy.

Today I am feeling so tired, dunno why, I got sleep. But I sit here in front of my computer ready to sleep.

The Grammy nominiations were announced this morning. As I listened to them, I heard the Best Actor category, and what I didn't hear was Richard Gere's name for Chicago. I was rather surprised seeing he won the Golden Globe Award. But I did not watch the movie, so I can't really critique. They were talking about best director category, and Roman Polanski got a nod for "The Pianist" I think it was. So interesting note about Roman Polanski. He has been a fugitive from the States after being charged with some sexual offense (I heard this over the radio, I have done no research, so I don't know if it's true). Anyways, so here's the thing, if he wants to come to the Oscars, he's gonna have to work something out, because he's wanted for this offense. I guess he's not coming. hahaha

So what in the world is going on with these gas prices! There are some out there at 85.9! That's disgusting. Anyways, average out there is about 81.9, which is disgusting enough for me. So they say come Spring the gas prices may keep on going up. so what happens when the big 99.9 comes? They don't have enough room for anything over a dollar. They are gonnahave to get rid of the decimal point. Or maybe even better, start back at zero! hahaha. Or better yet, they can buy a whole new sign with four digits and then hike prices even more so that us consumers can pay for it.

So this Invisibility technology I talked about in my last post, I think my co-worker putb it best "That is one of the technologies we can do without!" Seriously huh, with this, no one can ever feel they have any privacy anymore. For all we know, we can be walking and there is someone directly behind us every step of the way. This is potentially dangerous weapon. If you want to talk about "Weapons of Mass Destruction", this is one of them. I mean we can have terrorists walk into every building unnoticed and bomb anything they want, because they are invisible. There will be crimes committed everywhere because we as the people are just not responsible enough with this type of technology. We will abuse it, and it will do more harm than good.

It brings me to thinking about the show Alias. This is the type of product SD-6 would like to have. It's a products that can ruin the world. What were the Japanese thinking in making this! Every bit of crime rate will go up because it is so much easier to commit now without being noticed. although it's cool so see, it's not so cool to have. I am sure every child once imagined what they'd be like if they had super powers, like being invisible, and surely it sounds nice, but in reality, it's dangerous.

Alright, I got a few other things to talk about another time. But for now, later.

Been kind of busy lately, I get home and after my usual tv time and gym time, I have to write e-mails.

Last Wednesday AY and I organized a FREE DINNER for people on Campus. This was endorsed and sponsored by UTCCF thankfully, and it went amazingly well. We had tons of volunteers to help us, and tons of people showed up. We had to make TWO extra stops at grocery stores on top of the food we originally had. We provided a nice spaghetti dinner and unfortunately, we overestimated on pasta, underestimated on sauce and drinks. But it went spectacular and God really showed us we had no faith in the number of people to show up. I could not get there early but Amelia said people started showing up at 6 when we did not start until 6:30. It's a wonder how come Orientation Dinner does not go that way, and everybody shows up late!

Today driving to work was interesting. I got off the 404 at Hwy 7, and at the bottom of the ramp on the right side there was a stalled car. So I was in the far right lane, and I just needed a little space from the lane to my left to get through. Everybody in front of me did the same thing, with no problems. When I got there, I squeezed every so slightly into thelane beside me, and the car starts wailing like his life is in danger! Goodness, there is a freakin stalled car, and we need to get through. Just give a little my goodness. So he gives me the stare, I look back at him and turn. He turns also, catches up to me (not like I was trying to get away), he gives me the finger, so I started making fun of him. He gives me a fist, oh yes, the fist! The mighty fist that does nothing. Like what was the point of that I thought. Did he want me to stop and get out of my car to get some action going? Like seriously, I was hoping he'd catch up to me and I could make fun of him or something, cause I seriously had no patience of idiots like him. Oh my, THE FIST!

oh man, this technology has to be the coolest thing ever made. It's a technology to make you invisible! ArticleThis is made in Tokyo, and they are in the early stages of making this work. Gotta see this man. You gotta take a look at these pictures.

This is the phone I want, it looks so sweet, and new!
Nokia 3650

My birthday is in October, plenty of time for you guys to save money and get me one.

I'd also settle for this one too:
Nokia 7650

Happy Chinese New Years

So here I am at work, and one of the Chinese ladies around here comes around and starts talking to the guys next to me. He was talking to me, so she came along, started talking in Mandarin. Went on and on behind me, and when she said something to me, I was like, I don't know how to speak Mandarin. I got to learn. Give me some motivation.

Anyways, so they were telling me, the R&D Manager that hired me, he used to give out Red Envelopes when he was here. He started at $20 a person is what I heard. Then $10, then last year down to $5, I think it's more cause more and more Chinese people came into the company, he'd be out a lot of money if he gave out $20 a person. But unfortunate for me, he retired last December, man, I lost out big.

Today I got to wake up 30 mins later, cause I got my mom to drive my sister to work, cause she went earlier, and my dad did not go to work. Man, and traffic was amazing today. I think tons of Chinese people took the day off today, and man did it make a difference. I don't think it's the fact I left later, cause I got to work about the same time as usual. Anyways, who knew one Chinese holiday and traffic would clear up so well.

I heard today on the news about Nelson Mandela's speech. Man, he totally read my mind. I was posting on this newsgroup about how I think Bush is just trying to take over the oil over in Iraq, and the fact Saddam is there running things into a ruckus, it's perfect timing. Anyways, some guy tried to bash me about it saying I'm insane, got no morals and everything. So I said something back, and perfect today that I heard it, cause I ended up pasting that exact quote for him to read and tell him obviously someone thinks the same as me, good ol' Mandela.

The NHL (National Hockey League) is having their All-Star game this weekend. And frankly, I've kinda lost interest in watching it. This is insane what is happening. Here we have all these guys who are pulling out of the game cause they gotta "nurse their injuries". Man, what a bunch of babies, "oh, I can't play, I gotta give myself some rest". This game was already some non-hitting useless game anyways, it's basically skating around for 15 mins. What a bunch of babies.

I watched this really interesting show the other day. It's a show on CBC called Venture. IT's basically a biography of entrepreneurs and their road to "hopeful richness". So this one followed this fairly young guy in Quebec. He brought this idea, and franchise "Lina's" to Montreal from Paris. It's a sandwich store. Basically it's high-quality, high-priced sandwiches that is maybe made some special way. But the thing is the sandwich costs like $7-$9 for just the sandwich, nothing else. He opened up a show in Shops ville Marie or something? right across from the Marche, I think I've been there, that Marche was great! Much better than the one in Toronto. Anyways, now it was a great story, he wanted to open in December for the Christmas rush, but he could not get renovations done on time, so he opened up after New Years. The first group that walked in ended up walking out, cause it was too expensive, which is what I would of done, those prices are ludicrous. I don't think it can be so good that it'll be worth my $10 for a sandwich. But I wish him good luck, if the idea does work out well (which I don't think will), I'll try one.

I don't know why, but I feel lunch hour is more relaxed today. I got to watch Relic Hunter during lunch today, cause not too many people in the game room. That episode was good, but I did not get to watch the whole thing, I had to go back to work at 1:30. But my snooker game was on today, I won the first game so easily, and second game althought I lost, I caught some bad breaks when I scratched multiple times. But it was a good game.

anyways, Happy Chinese New Years!

Last night I got to talk to a couple people I seemingly have not talked to lately. I won't name names though, but one should be easily deduced if you read some blogs.

So let's talk about Person XX. XX is a very talented artist. XX told me she was approached by some foundation I think it was, to auction off a piece of her work. That is amazing man. I would love to be able to have that kind of ability. I would feel so proud and honoured that my work is good enough to be bought.

I was reading on Reuters about this Auction to be held in London next month. It is to be the largest art auction ever in London, in terms of dollar value. We got impressionists, surrealist, etc etc. Whatever those terms mean. Anyways, I don't have much of an appreciation for art, but it amazes me at the value of each piece. Anyways, Congratulations XX on your acheivement!

So next I talked to XY. XY is having this huge dilemma. He is graduating this year from University, and let me tell you, this guy is still underage to do a lot of things, truly a prodigy. Anyways, there is this thing called GradBall that is held for graduates, and it might be for Engineers I think. Probably each college has their own thing, this is engineering's. So he wants to go with someone (no one in particular, just some other person) and he is having this dilemma of who to bring. What would be ideal for XY is if someone asked him I bet. It's always easier when you don't have to take intiative.

Anyways, so I was talking to him about who to bring. I couldn't make any suggestion to him because I don't know who he is closest with anymore, cause I haven't seen him around people in a long time. So one question he asked me was how well do you have to know this person before you feel comfortable asking them to go with you. But this is kind of subjective, because there are a lot of variables. Like how that person is, a socialite, or more reserved. And I don't think it always matters whether they know anybody else there, or just you. I mean it helps a lot that they know some other people, but if it doesn't really matter.

But one of the biggest fears is rejection. But I don't see what they big problem is, unless your asking them to go out, and you have interests, you know what I mean, then if they are busy, then it doesn't matter. I mean your all there to have some fun anyways. But I can understand this fear, because I myself suffer from it. I think it goes along with failure. Many of us can't accept failure, and this even is true for asking someone to go with you to some event. We don't want to lose face. But seriously, what do you have to lose but your reputation. I mean unless this person is going to go around telling people, "oh, this person asked me to go to ..., and then I rejected him..." and then everyone laughs, then there won't be anything lost. As long as the person you ask does not get wrong impression, like your interested, unless you really are.

But now I think about it, I think this can relate to God in a way. I mean one of the things as Christians, we should be able to have is humility. We should not be afraid to talk to people about our faith, always be open. And have humility with God, especially with sins. So if we can confess our sins to God, and show humility in what we do, how come we can't do such simple things that may make is humiliated?

SO XY, just suck it up and do what you want. If this person turns you down, then move on to the next person. Life goes on.

So this is what happened yesterday. As usual some traffic jams on the 401. I heard on 680 News some extended backups on the Express, so I quickly jettisoned to the Collectors. So I was in the fast lane, cause I knew I wanted to get back into the Express before Bayview. Traffic was moving along finely, like normal, but I was stuck behind this car that was going 85kph in the fast lane. I was hardly on the gas pedal and it felt like I was tailgating this car. I tried to keep a safe distance behind, but everytime I was pushing on gas, I'd be right back on her tail. And I could not get out of the lane, ebcause cars in the lane next to me were whizzing by. Finally at the transfer, she pumped her fist up (I think it was intended for me, but I am not sure), looking like it was out of disgust. It could of been at the car beside her, but I do not know. Anyways, I have no sympathy, when your driving 85kph in the fast lane, on a 400 series hwy, and other traffic is moving at normal pace, she deserves to be pressured. But anyways, I felt I was at a safe distance behind to not pressure her, I was not right on her tail.

And another thing about cars, the horn. Honking the horn is by tradition to be viewed as a bad thing, it implies disgust of the person you are honking at when your on the road. But it is actually a safety feature for the car, because you don't know when you need to bring some attention to another driver. So one of the things I hate most about driving is changing lanes. Because when you change into a lane, you don't know if someone else from two lanes over is going into the lane just like you are. Now when both start appraoching the lane between them, panic starts to happen. Most likely the car behind will notice first. So this happened to me yesterday too, I was going into the lane, when this large van started coming into the lane I was going into from the other side. I quickly honked at him, not in disgust, but to tell him, hey dude, there is someone else already going into the lane, I was there first! Anyways, this is my beef, the horn is viewed too negatively, and when it is used in the most positive way, people still are insulted that youhonked at them. Which is the case it seemed of this driver. I mean I was simply informing him, watch out, there is someone else there and your gonna cause an accident. I think we all need to lighten up a bit, and view the bigger picture.

I am sitting at work now, bored. I asked my Team Leader what I should work on now that the project I was working on is finished. Well, for now it's finished, when the users start coming back with the bugs, then I'll have to fix it up a bit. BUt bugs, no way! There are never any bugs in software!

So like I said, I asked him (Team Leader) what I should work on, and he didn't really know. He suggested I read up on some new computer languages. So here I am reading about SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol). It's an XML-based programming language. I am not totally understanding it yet, but maybe I'll pick it up once I start using it (if I start using it).

Funny joke I heard on a radio morning show this morning. So they were talking about Joe MIllionaire. They played this clip that was on tv last night during the show, where Evan (a.k.a Joe) was locking lips with one of the girls, and they did not show it, but provided the sounds effects from it (ohh. muah... *slurp*, *gulp*, etc etc), it went on, such a disgusting clip. Anyways, so then they said, stay tuned tonight for a new reality tv show, Joe President, where they take an average Joe out of Texas and make him President. (this is in reference to Bush's statement to be aired tonight on the state of thge Union).

I don't really have much to talk about lately, so lemme give you guys an update on some tv shows:

American Idol: Very good show, worth the time to watch, cause it's so funny.

The Practice: Man, last night's episode was really good. Eugene and Jimmy won this huge case against a liquor manufacturer. The case was this guys died because of alcohol. Eleanor was approached by a jail warden who wants to try and prevent a lady on death row being killed. This lady has mental problems and has been on medication to stabilize herself. Anyways, Eleanor's case is to get her to come off the medication, and then argue insanity, because they cannot kill an insane person. This sounds dangerous.

Jow Millionaire: He kicked of MoJo. Nuff said

Smallville: Last week Mrs. Kent and Lionel Luther were held hostage at Luther Corp. It was revealed Lionel has bars of Kryptonite in his vault, along with files, one of them an investigation on Clark. Anyways, when Clark came to the rescue, Mrs. Kent told Clark to burn the files, as he did. But fact remains, they know something. And also, Mrs. Kent took the octagonal disk Lionel had, the one that fits into the ship. She hid it from Mr. Kent. And they now plan to use her job as a means to see how much Lionel knows about Clark.

8 Simple Rules for Dating my Daughter: this is such a funny show. With guy from Three's Company, and mom from Married with Children. Anyways, yesterday they did this skit posing as Three's Company. Keri was caught making out with her sister's boyfriend. At end they make up, but it is revealed that Keri is in love with this guy, becuase she drew this picture showing it in her notebook. Scandalous.

I put this icon on the left frame. It's a website that tells you where the cheapest gas is, and also most expensive. So what happens is people input gas prices into it, when they see it, describing the station they saw it at. I use this all the time, so I know what the trend in gas is. Everyone use it, so we can all get cheap gas! Or better yet, tell me you wanna use it, I'll e-mail you something, so I can get points. ahaha

And I also changed some little stuff on that side too, so it's updated a tad. And an interesting thing, I don't think my blogs are interesting enough obviously. Because nobody every comments, nobody ever writes in my guestbook. Which is both okay, but it gives me indication I'm not interesting enough. Hmm, gotta think of something.
Wish I could do stuff like this:

Cool Sand Sculptures
You know, don't you hate it when your in a rush, or it's an important day, and about everything that can go wrong, does?

Last week was a bad week. On Wednesday was my Mom's Birthday. I was to go pick up the cake and the sushi platter I had ordered after work. If all things went right, I'd be able to do both and pick up my dad on his way home. But like I said at the beginning, everything went wrong.

Started off, I lost a few games of snooker before I left, that was not good. Then I went down, to the car, one of the coldest days ever. Tried to start the car, it did not start! That was probably the worst day to not work, as I had errands to run. They were expecting me at a certain time. So I went back up to work to ask a co-worker to help me, cause I know nothing about cars. So eventually, the car started, but it did not sound great. He told me drive around, on the highway for some time, to let the engine heat up. I did that, of course this did not good for me, cause I was wasting time, but better to get there late, and be able to leave, than get there, and get stuck again. Finally, after adding about 1 hour to the time I expected to leave, I finally got aruond to picking up my orders. I slowly drove home, and the worst part was, I did not want the engine to cool down, to the little needle indicating that on my dash was my indicator. Everytime I wanted to turn on the heat, it went down. This was not good, I was freezing cold. I ended up driving home with no heat the whole way. Only when I was close to home, my toes were so numb I was scared of frostbite, and the thought of possibly amputation, did I say, "damn the engine, my toes are freezing, I need heat!" So as I said, proof that in the worst times when you need everything to go well, it goes exactly opposite.

Sunday I was sitting in Sunday school, when I needed my Palm. I took it out, started trying to use it, when I realized, the screen is not letting me do anything with writing. I tried everything, resetting, a full reset wiping everything out. No help! My Palm is dead! I need some serious help, I can't live without one now, I don't know what my appointments are anymore! I can't organize my life! This sucks, no warranty anymore, everything is gone, and now I have to look into buying another one! This sucks!

I am here at work doing nothing, cause I just decided this project I was given is finished. I have been working on it for about a month now. I finally got it working and documented to my approval. I e-mailed my team leader that I was finished, and now, I got nothing to do. I refuse to work more on it, in case I mess the whole thing up. Now I got nothing to do, I am back to my boredom state. And the two guys sitting around me, one was laid off last week, other was given his work on top of the work he already had, he's got no time to chat or play pool/ping pong. I got nothing to do.

I think I'm starting to feel separated from UTCCF. Almost every week I hear about this new girl, or this new guy. And I have no idea who they are. I have not met them, have not been there since first week of school, in September. I have no idea who these people are, and I kinda miss knowing everybody. hahaha. But I vow to stay at where I am. You know I am glad I started going to Hosanna for fellowship. I really needed something new, and God provided me with this opportunity to go to their fellowship. i just started when I started going. God really filled my need when I needed it. and it works out perfectly with my situation, getting home late, no time to go to CCF, but since GLU (God Loves U, the fellowship name) starts late, I can make that, so good.

I was drinking my water at work today. I brought a spring water bottle from home. We had kept it when we went to Conneticut. And I noticed and interesting thing. On all bottles in Canada, we use 'ml' to indicate the volume inside. This bottle does not, it writes: (.5L, 1Pt, .9FL Oz), which I find interesting. Units are in Litres, Pints, and Fluid Ounces. Why don't they just use 'ml'? It's so muh easier? They already use 'L', why not 'ml'?

Today has got to be one of the saddest days I've ever experienced.

Today was the day that the layoffs began/and supposedly ended at work. Yes, around 10:30, the management people started calling some people into their offices, to hand them their packages. Only after the first few did people around start clueing in, and work stopped for a long period of time. A total of 19 people were axed out of a total of like 86 people. No, I was not one of them, Thank God, but it was sad to see those around me have to leave. One of the people I was closest to, EH, he was called in, came out, and wished me good luck, and left. EH had helped me so much throughout my stay there, always there to help me when I ask, able to joke around and offer me advice. The other person I knew more, that was handed the pink slip is PL. He was also one of those who always was willing to help when you ask. The sad thing is he was about to go on vacation after tomorrow, back to HK for New Years. He was to stay for a month. And now, he goes back on a sad note. Good luck to both of you, EH and PL.

It's interesting the way they cut people. When EH and PL were already out, along came a guy from Marketing. He was such a funny guy, everything out of his mouth was in humour. Anyways, so he was asking around, who was gone. He said nobody from that side had happened. Then later on in the day, I received an e-mail from HR listing everybody who was cut, this guy's name included. It seemed the trend was to cut those who have been with their groups for a long period of time. This guy I know has been around long cause there was this old book I saw with his name in it.

An interesting discussion we had, talking about who decided the people to leave. Someone suggested this lady, who had taken over the manager of our team after the original manager, who just retired. This lady didn't know our team as well, and so she was the likely culprit. Speculation was she decided those who were a little less vocal. Again, when I saw the e-mail I talked about above, her name was right at the top. Either that was her last duty, or she had no idea, my guess is it's the latter.

After seeing this happen, it brings a little perspective to life and the business world. It's so tough. And you don't know what to expect during tough times. Things are nice when the economy is good, but life get's very hard when the economy is rough. I feel sorry for those who were cut, this is not something someone wants to go through in life, it can be very tough. But I am sure most will be able to pick up where they left off in soon time.

I think I may start looking for a job, maybe. I feel if I can find something better, then I should seize the chance if I can.

Some interesting things I heard last 24 hours. So I was at the gym yesterday doing some cardio. I don't like to look at the meter while I ride the bicycle, so I usually read, makes time go by faster. So I was reading this article from the Star, I can't find it online, which is a shame, cause it was a really interesting article.

Anyways, so the article talks about relationships in this day in age. Talks about no longer is it assumed that the guy is the aggressor, the person who makes the first step or initiates the first contact. It talks about more and more these days it's the girl who makes the first move, and is the aggressive one. No longer do we have girls who stay back, waiting for things to happen, rather they take what they want.

This theory is based on the fact the feminist movement is greater than ever. That we have more women in the business world these days, the "independant" women theory. And this theory totally makes sense, I mean in this day in age, women have a lot of power. This is exactly what the article talks about, how women are in this power struggle, they need to show their "power".

The reason I find this interesting, other than the fact it just simply is funny and interesting, is I don't see this in my world. In fact in my world it still is this primitive ideaology, that guy does everything. I think it has to do with the fact I'm Chinese. In general, asian women are seen as a more submissive type. Now I am not the one who makes this notion, I simply state what is the general idea. So anyways, it is because of this that I do not feel the effects of what this article talks about. in general, I think Chinese/Asian girls still hold the nature of being the "reactor", not the "instigator". They are not as aggressive as other "North American" girls.

Actually, thinking again, this is not totally true. This is only totally true when the guy and the girl are "going out". Because once they are married/going out, it's a totally different story, a whole other blog in itself.

So anyways, this article goes on about how the girls are much more aggressive, in that they are the ones who push for sex and things like that, again, showing their power. I am not surprised the least actually, maybe it's just media I am basing this particular notion on, but as seen in media, you see a lot of the girl making the intiative, and not the guy. It's the whole idea of independance from guys, doing things on their own.

I think this is one reason why more and more teenagers are having sex these days. It mean in the past, the general idea was the guy pushed having sex onto the girl. But no, if even the girls do the same, then the percentage of people having sex have just multiplied, because the girls now intiatite this onto the guys as well. Kinda of a scary thing no?

This week I decided to go back to the gym, signed up and paid for. So I went once this week not including today. as expected, I was sore the next day and the days after. The part that hurt the most were my deltoids (I think that's what it's called, section underneath shoulder on the front?).Anyways, I was hurting.

Then I decided to go rock climbing yesterday. Went with Daniel Fellowship at my church (that would be the Cantonese-University Fellowship). Man, this was a good day. I had great fun. It was good learning how to rock climb, talking with some people I don't get to talk to as often. But mostly it was the climbing. Although I must say I was not that good, my footwork was terrible, which made me rely on the arms more, so my forearms hurt. Then the harness, it was pretty much on all day, so next thing, my groin hurts. So pretty my my whole body hurts now. But it was a good day.

Something that kinda made me feel "negative" was when we went to lunch at McDonalds. I was sitting with these two girls and we were talking. Two girls were at the table beside us, they were also with our bunch. So when I had finished, I had expressed how much pain I was in and how tired I was, all I wanted was some relaxation. So there was a newspaper there, and so I took it, intending to read it. Then the girl in the table next to us started going on about "how rude it was to read that newspaper, when two lovely girls are sitting right in front of you." Whatever, I am tired, I don't feel like being lectured, I am not interested in neither of them (which is besides the point, I know), and all I need is some calm relaxation from reading what going on this world. Anyways, as much as I know, sure, maybe I should of talked to them more. Maybe it wasn't the best move, but I don't think anybody is offended by it but her. I simply needed some rest, and was trying to catch up on what's going on in the world around me. For all she knows, I could of been reading the paper, looking for something interesting to talk about. I do that a lot, I use news/current events/entertainment news to start up conversation. Anyways, I have nothing against this girl, just I didn't appreciate it to much, seeing I didn't even know her. Doesn't matter now, she had a good point, but it wasn't what I needed at that time.

I found this comic rather funny. This is a For Better of For Worse comic I got from Yahoo Comics. And it brings me to what I want to talk about, and something that bothers me. It's about noise levels.

I am always feeling paranoid lately when I talk. I feel I am a very loud talker and my voice carries. And another thing is I find it hard to whisper or talk softly. Everyday at work, my co-workers and I have at least one long talk and the problem I find is I don't always want everyone to know we're chatting, or even moreso not always what we're talking about. But I find everytime I talk it's loud.I have no idea how far it travels, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's far. I don't know what to do about it. I should start asking people in other cubicles if they can hear me. I don't want to be bothering other people who are actually doing/trying to do work. But I also want to talk to my co-workers because I totally feel being able to talk with them is very important. It's one of the things I have felt been lacking at work as opposed to my previous jobs.

I mentioned many blogs ago how at this work placement, I have been working with more guys, and like guys, they don't chat as much. Whereas in my past summer jobs, I have worked primarly with women, so you know who women are, all chit-chat and stuff. Work an hour, talk for half an hour. I miss that atmosphere, it's so much more laid back and fun.

That is not to say the atmosphere at my work now is not good. I have slowly been able to build some bond with these guys, and things have worked out well. Has a Christmas party at one of their homes. Been able to talk them much more easily now. And like I said earlier in the blog, I have one long conversation a day with these two guys in my cubicle. Mostly we talk a lot about things we do, and computers.

Almost everyday we talk about computers it seems. I learn so much from them. I don't find I know much about computers in general, they are always teaching me things. Especially about building a computer, what parts to buy if I want to build my computer, which I will do before I go back to school. I know, how can a Computer Engineer not know this stuff, well it's very possible let me tell you. I had a friend in first year who was in Electrical Engineering, which is so much like Computer Engineering who did not even own a computer, and I also met at least one who has not programmed I think. Weird stuff out there. Proves my point, most people who go into Engineering do so because they can, not because they like it or they want to. It's because their marks are high enough that they can get in, so why not try.

So much has happened since I last blogged.

First thing that happened, was first day back to work. For a long time prior to Dec 31, there had been talks of the company I work for being sold, or merged, something happening to it. Basically I work for a company called Nettest, who is a subsidiary of a parent company called GN. Since we are in the communication/telecom/optical area, basically we were hit with the same thing happening everywhere, cutbacks.

So Dec 31, GN announces our company has been sold to a Danish Investor company. So effective immediately, we have a new owner, and they subsequently decide, that they will only continue to run operations out of Copenhagen (HQ) and Utica (in the States somewhere, I have no idea). So that means they have decided Toronto is no longer in their future. So then what does that mean for Toronto office and me? Well, two options, sold to another company, or closed down. Needless to say things have not been happy at work, and it has been a tough time. I don’t really know what that means for me as a student, but I can only come up with a couple possibilities.

So anyways, the last week meant not much productive work happening at work, but I must say there has been an increase of people everyday and evening in the game room. We play a couple games of snooker and ping pong every night before we leave.
I think this really helps me get a better view of the working world. The first two summers I worked I gained so much about the politics of working and the business world. But this one tops a lot. Seeing my co-workers going through this time is really reassuring sometimes, but sad others. Everyday is kind of sad because they are all scared of being laid off. And everyone is talking about this possibility. And if they do, many of them will not get much compensation because of the time they have worked there. But what good is that they still have high spirits and they don’t seem too depressed. But it’s life, and you take things as they come. Can’t do much about what is happening.

So there are some potential buyers, one of them being four “management” people from the Toronto office. That’d be the VP (highest guy there), COO, head of R&D, and head of Sales. I think this is really a surprise for me. I mean they are the closest to the operations in Toronto, they know what’s happening, and the prospects here. But I really admire them taking this on, or at least trying. I mean before they were just employees, not much on the line. But now they make this proposal to buy the company (with Investors most likely) to become owners, essentially putting their lives at risk. I mean if the company succeeds or fails, it comes down to them who are responsible. It’s such a big risk at this point. Starting a company is not as high a risk, because you probably don’t have as much invested. But this operation has about 86 people working there, tons of equipment, basically very high risk with so many employees.

Okay, so other stuff. I stopped by a dinner for a friend of mine who went to Japan to work. He came back for the holidays to visit, so I stopped by to see him for just half an hour. He hasn’t changed much. But the best line I heard in a long time. So we’re going through his digital camera, and his pictures. One of the guys looks over his shoulder at a picture, it’s of this girl, a portrait. So he goes “is that one of your hot Japanese girl-friends?”. So my friend goes, “Yo guy, that’s my sister!” hahahaa, that was too funny. Oh man, I was laughing non-stop.

I just finished reading this book I bought before Christmas. It’s called “Amazon Extreme” by Colin Angus. It’s basically a diary of Colin, and his journey with two others down the Amazon river. This was a great book, bought it at a book sale for $2.50. It was amazing the experience they went through and that they survived. Many people had attempted the same journey but had either failed, or did not last to make it out of the Amazon (if you know what I mean). Now this isn’t a Christian book, and I do not think they are Christian (at least I do not get that impression from the book), but it was amazing they survived and the things they went through. Events like that are very life changing, and such a big risk and task to make. Book made me feel like I should be doing something like that, living life to it’s fullest right?

Okay, I’ll try to write again tomorrow.

Restaurant Review: Harbour 60 - 60 harbour Street, between Bay and York, on Harbour street down by the Gardiner. It is the old Port Authority building.

This restaurant was really good. I spent New Years Even there. We stayed in a private room (I think Louis XVIII or something)in the basement, supposedly (says the waitress) the best dining room in Toronto. Anyways, was this long table, two wine glasses at each setting, these grand chairs for everyone. Was amazingly nice setting. the washrooms were not amazingly surreal, however what was surprising they don't have paper towels in there, they have a basket of real towels for you to wipe your hands.

The restaurant is a steakhouse, so I had a Rib Eye steak served Medium Well. They undercook the meat, so it's actually medium. This steak was really good. (Cost = $43.95). Anyways, was good food, other things supposedly tasted really good like the Salmon extree (Cost = $25.95). Most entrees do not come with appetizers or sides, they are seperate.

For dessert, from what I saw, which is the only one, try the Alaskan Baked Merangue dessert. It is this huge dessert, that had rock hard brick-like ice cream in middle (tw/three flavours) topped with Merangue. They put a flame over top and it goes in fire in front of you. It's a nice show and a very good dessert.

Appetizers, we had the vegetables, mushrooms, potatoes, things like that, was decent, but amazing. One of the guys there for half dozen Rockefeller cooked Oysters. Supposedly it's Oysters with something on top. He says it's really good, best he's ever had. (Cost = $26.75 a half dozen or something).

This place is pricey, but really good. Worth the experience. Food was worth the money, but it's still expensive.

Rating: 4.0/5.0 stars.

Was browsing some blogs and found this one. I can't find the link anymore, so sorry for the person (think her name was Charlene) who I took this from.

Anyways, she had this link to this cool website that tells you whcih element you are.

so what do you think? Accurate? Totally off? Anyways, was pretty good test, I suggest you take it.
So last week there was this announcement of the first ever cloned human. "Nickname" Eve is what I hear her name (or nickname) is. and there are expected to be at least another 5 clone babies to be given birth in next year I think. Anyways, cloning has always been a sensitive issue. A lot of people say it's immoral, playing God, all sorts of stuff. This changes life has we know it.

Anyways, this news was a shock to me in that morning. I turned on CP24 and all I see is this news conference with this freakishly looking scary women talking. They are apart of this group "Cloneage" I think? They believe us humans started existence by aliens. Anyways, I was thinking about this the whole way up to work. I was thinking, how in the world did this group get all this tv coverage. There is no credibility, there is no proof, just hearsay. I mean sure if it's true, it would be huge news, and worth the tv coverage. But no one has even seen or know where is Eve. We just have to believe this scary doctor lady. From what I hear, supposedly "Eve" was supposed to be born on the 25th, how ironic that it's the 25th, birthday of Christ.

Even is supposed to arrive somewhere in US today for DNA testing. I personally do not believe that Eve is truly a clone. I don't think this Cloneage group has any credibility and I don't believe what they say is true. I think this whole thing is a hoax.

I'm just not convinced that we can reproduce someone DNA as a perfect match. Although I have no background on why I believe this, or any credibility for you to "just trust me", it's just my personal opinion. But if we are to believe this is true, how come we can't even see a picture of Eve? I mean I can understand hiding the whereabouts of Eve, or any live pictures as well, but maybe just a photo with no background?

But why are people believing this women? I mean have they ever done anything incredible like this? If someone knows, please tell me. Here we are believing this women who think we all were created from aliens. I am surprised at how naive and gullible people can be. But maybe I am making this huge overstatement of humankind.

Anyways, on to other matters. I went to see the Lion King Musical last night. It was Justin, Frank, Kitty, Milesa, and myself. This musical was so good. The costumes, set, singing were just astounding. So good that Frank and I walked out thinking, "Why can't we be in a musical like that", "We're in the wrong business, we got to get into show business." Just seeing the little Simba and Nala made me wonder, how come my parents never pushed me into the musical show business. That'd be so cool to say, "Yeah, I played Simba in the Lion King.". hahaha.

Restaurant review: Urban on King street between John and Blue Jay Way. My sister suggested this restaurant as she heard it was decent. We went there after the show and I order this Five spiced chicken with rice and vegetables with a papaya sauce. So anyways, I didn't find this dish very very good. I mean it was decent, but wasn't all that great. The place looked nice, but more of a "date" place than a "friend" place. washrooms were not impressive at all. Don't go into the washroom in back of restaurant if your a guy. They strategically place a mirror somewhere you don't want it to be. The waitress was very nice though. She was funny, very nice to talk to. Anyways, 2.5/5 stars.

So last week it was announced the chain Hooters has purchased an airline that they will run under the name Hooters Air. I was laughing so hard when I heard about this. So it's gonna be a place full of single men, on "business" trips, with stewardess' in tiny tops, orange shorts, with very good wings. That just sounds like trouble to me. Sounds like the count for people belonging to the "Mile High Club" is about to increase exponentially. Some may think it may not fly (the concept that is), but I don't know, there are a lot of single men out there. As long as their prices are competitive, it may be work out okay.

Today is thr 27th, and I am here at work, doing nothing of course. I really want to do some work, but the new project I've been asked to do I cannot do without some help from some people. But those people are on vacation, so how am I supposed to figure it out? So I'll be doing nothing today.

Yesterday I went shopping with my mom. My dad had to work, so we went to Yorkdale and Sherway. It wasn't a total time wasted, as I came out with a new shirt, pants, and a winter jacket. In fact both my mom and I bought a jacket, Sporting Life had some really good sales. Parking was not too bad actually, when we got to Yorkdale before 9AM, oddly enough some people were already leaving. And some of them came out with no bags, weird. In any case, we benefited most with their parking space.

I was listening on the news today and I heard of a shooting. Of course this crime happens all the time to families, but what makes this one worse is this family had to endure this twice. This is the second child in the family to be shot. Now the one thing worse for a mother than putting one of her children to rest, is having to do it twice. That must be really hard for her. I can't even imagine how hard it is on the family.

Yesterday after shopping, I got on icq, and to my surprise someone messaged me. Nickname: "Pretty in Pink", so I was thinking, what girl changed her name to this, who is this? I look at the e-mail address, and I figured it out. It was not a girl, it was a guy. We'll call him IC. IC and I went to elementary school together, however we went to different high schools. I find it so weird saying it, and writing it that he is an Elementary school friend. He hasn't changed much I don't find, he still has the same hair, many views are the same as well. So we went out last night to catch up a little, and we went to go play some pool. The games were no match, we probably plyed 5-6 games and I won them all. But that's not the point. We got to talking about how our mutual friends are doing. Mind you our Mutual friends are from Elementary school. Of course some of them went to the same High school as himself, but that's besides the point as well. I found it so odd that I was reflecting, and I seriously I don't keep in touch with any people from back then. He is probably the only one i keep in touch with. I mean there is KC who I talk to because we've known each other since childhood and our parents are friends. But other than her, no one. It's interesting how people turned out we think. I was talking about this one guy RJ who wasvery bright back in Elementary school, and IC was like, he was not smart, far from it. So I was like, okay, in my time he was smart. Having long lasting friendships is hard, I can't say I talk to anyone from my Elementary school days. I talk to maybe three people from my high school. It's just so awkward thinking back now. It's a shame really.

So I remember, next blog on cloning, Hooters Air

I was just looking through random blogs from title page of Blogger when I stumbled across this one. I thought it was a funny story, so her it is, I pasted it:

I know it the eve of christmas and people are supposed to be all cheerful. but when my patience is being tested and poked at being cheerful is the last thing on my mind. moreever when i feel like i am living in a city of jackasses that don't have the minimal bit of ettiquite in them. here i am trying to pick up a cake for a good friend to wish her tomorrow, when amidst the bunch of brain dead freaks in front of me, i spot two women franctically tryin to get the attention of Mr.Buldging Biceps behind me. trying hard to be nice(very difficult when they've stepped on ur shoes twice), i tell the women to go to a side and have fun if they want to. silence is golden, but when a "nice" suggestion is met with silence, one does tend to get ticked off. without further ado i ask the women to step outta the line and if they wanted to get laid on the street they might as well get it over with and spare us all the trouble. Mr.Biceps seemingly takes offence to my "subtle" for the ladies to go party elsewhere, and mutters, "dude why dont u leave them alone, they're just having fun". by this time the kettle is ready to pop the cork out and i very nicely tell the dude "brother, if u stopped kissing their butts for a second u'd see that a few people are actually here to buy sumthin". Mr.Biceps now is seething mad, "whats ur problem?". my problem as i explained to him "its just that i see two very ugly women trying their best to prick the attention of an absolute jackass behind me, and added to that their primate like antics are hurting my eyes and are very oblivious to the fact that their elephantiasis like feet have twice tread on my toes". Mr.Biceps realized that if he spoke anymore he wasn't going to get anywhere so he used the only other working part in his body: his biceps. thats when my friend the manager and a few other people i knew came and dragged the dude out. a pity !!! would've loved a black eye and a lil bit of more fun before tomorrow ;-) by TechnoMerlin

I just thought it was a funny story, so I thought I'd print it here. I don't know who he is, but it was funny. Enjoy.
Today is Christmas Eve. Yesteday went to Kitty's party at The Bestiary (otherwise known as the Haunted House). It was a nice party, supposed to be semi-formal but it looks like some people have varying opinions on what semi-formal is. We got the ones wearing the suits with tie (Andrew, Justin and I) to some guys wearing jeans. My impression is semi-formal is suit and tie. And dress shirt with or without tie is business casual. And then it goes down from there. I have always liked to dress up, but I think I'm getting fat. I tried on a bunch of dress pants I bought after first year and they barely fit. This was such a change from when I first bought them and they were loose. I am getting so fat.

Interesting thing I heard on the radio this morning. They were talking about what teens ask for Christmas the most. And to my surprise, what the poll said was most teens ask for WORLD PEACE!!! can you believe that, I don't believe it. What teens are they asking? the ones I know are materialistic and spoiled. we're not talking about a room full of Craig Kielberger's (if that's how you spell it).

Which brings me to this World Peace issue. It's hard for me to say, but I don't think World peace is possible. There will always be war, confrontation, disagreements, non-peaceful things. How do you expect there to ever be world peace. For all we know, this right now could be considered World Peace. I mean different people have different views about it. I mean comparing it to WWII, this right now is peaceful. So then how is one to judge if the World is peaceful? For there to be World Peace, wouldn't everyone need to agree that there is peace? We can't just have one person tell the world, "We now have world peace", how can one person judge this? That person would be pretty dumb to make such a statement.

I won the championship game for Football pool. And the thing is I let Yahoo choose my players. I forgot about the live draft, I did not pre-rank my players because I knew nothing about football. And thanks to Yahoo, I won the championship gane, beating Brian Lee in the final game. But that is not to say that I did nothing, because I had to completely change my defensive line. The ones Yahoo gave me sucked. and now I have a pretty good defensive line to give me some points. And I was able to pick up some hot starters such to get me points while some of my other players were not performing. So it was not all Yahoo.

Yesterday at work was so boring. I accomplished nothing but winning twice in 8-ball. All I did all day was surf the net, reading articles, played 8-ball and ping-pong. Afterwards I went to Wal-Mart to buy the new John Grisham book. Looks good, but I gotta finish the one I am reading right now first. And I bought this really cool magazine. Everytime I see it I want to buy it cause it looks so interesting. It's Architectural Digest, and it's a collector's Edition copy, where the main feature article is on the design of The Royal buildins. They look into tons of The Royal Estate palaces. So I guess if I never get to go to London, at least I know how it looks. But the interesting thing is they do not show Buckingham Palace, too bad.

Yesterday it Kitty's party I met this guy whose views are just amazingly different. So he's in CS, and he is graduating this year. So I asked him "Are you looking for work now?". And he said no, he's in no rush. He says he prefers to relax. I thought that was so cool, not many people can say that. I was amzed by his answer because it's totally different from most CS people, cause they are probably frantically searching for a full-time job now. so props to this guy who see the world in a bigger view. relax first, you got rest of your life to work. Too bad I just can't follow that way, I get too bored not doing anything..

Waiting for the day to end. I have done nothing today, and I don't expect myself to get much done next week while I am at work either. It's not because I don't want to, nothing would make me happier than to get it all done when everyone else comes back from vacation. However, I don't know how to do it, and if I need to ask people, they are all on vacation, so I'm out of luck.

Yesterday I went to dinner with my University friends as our annual end-of-year dinner. We do this every year, and the thing is everytime we have it, it's always last day of exams. The Mechs/Indy's always have their exams in the morning and the ECE's always have their's in the afternoon. so when dinner comes around it's always the ECE's talking about how hard the exam was, dwelling on our sorrows. and we would hardly ever hear anything about the Mech/Indy exam. Anyways, so this year basically everyone is working except two Indy's, so there they go talking about their exam, and I was thinking to myself, this is weird, this never happens. Anyways, the worst part of the night was when I was driving home. the rain was coming down so bad. And even worse was the water coming at me as a result of the car in front of me. I was driving in the left lane and I could not see any of the lines. So what happened was I was driving along, when I was approahcning some cars, and I could not tell where the lines were. So I kept on driving, and only after I passed the car, did I realize I was driving outside of the lane on the little part off the side of the road your not supposed to drive on. hmm, what's the name for that? Anyways, I was pretty scared while driving home, cause I could hardly tell the whole way home where I was driving.

Yesterday the release 5.0 was released for production at work. So we had a celebrating of a pizza lunch. So while we were eating, we see one of the "high" people carrying around a stack of letters. Oh yeah, you know what we were thinking. How bad luck is that, end of the year, carrying around sealed small envelopes looking like your gonna pass them out. Oh yeah, they looked like "dismissal" papers, the pink slip. So we were laughing about them at our table, and next thing you know, she's headed towards our table. Oh my, what is she gonna do? hahaha.

I think there are some stuff wrong with me. First thing is that I feel everytime I step into a mall these days, I completely lose interest in shopping. I would say that I like shopping, but these days I just can't get into it. And it's not like the commercialization of Christmas or anything, this has been happening for a while now. I don't really know why. I think the only way for me to have a good time is if I buy something at a very good price right at the beginning, then I will find my interest. But I also think that the things in stores these days are just not nice. I think I am a picky shopper, I do not spend my money on unnnecessary things, or things that are just way too expensive. I try to look for the nicest things are the biggest bargains. Maybe I'm limiting myself?

Another thing I think is seriously wrong. Interesting thing happened a few weeks back. I was driving to work, and then the car in front of me stopped abruptley and I could not stop in time. That meant I hit the car in front of me. I was so upset at that point. so the car in front of me was an Acura RSX, and I briefly looked at the bumper, and I saw nothing wrong. We both pulled over to the side, and by this point my heart was racing. Then the driver stepped out of the car, and first thing I said to myself when I saw the driver was "hey, it's a young chinese girl, interesting...." What is wrong with me? Here I am, just hit someone, and I'm thinking of this girl. Here I thought "is this fate?" Then I got out, made sure nothing was wrong with her car, and my car. We exchanged phone numbers, and she has not called since. So good for me. I have no idea why I thought that at first impression. Anyways, this week while driving in heavy traffic, same route, I saw her again. She was driving along the Qew as I was and I drove past her. I knew I would see her again, it was bound to happen. I mean I knew she was driving to work, and so was I, so if we were at same point once, not so improbable I'd see her again. But I didn't bother taking a better look, I saw a chinese girl inside, and I could pretty much assume it was her. Anyways, no point to this whole story, but something dumb.

Interesting study I read about yesterday on Reuters. Chocolate-Derived Chemical Could Suppress Cough. I found this article fascinating. They say that by eating chocolate, you can cure coughs. I was like, don't be telling too many people this, otherwise we'll get all these children eating an excess of chocolate and reasoning by saying they're trying to cure their cough. But then they say, they'd have to consume 25 bars to achieve the dose of substance used. Very interesing, only setback is you'll prob gain so much weight you'll be looking for a way to lose weight. Better stick to cough medicine.

Fantasy football has been pretty good for me. First time I ever played it. I didn't even go to the draft, I let Yahoo choose my players. And goodness, I am going to the SuperBowl (in the league). One more win from being the league champion, all I have to do is beat Brian Lee (a.k.a, The Waterboy). In other action, my teams have been doing poorly in almost all my other leagues.

Work has been rather boring of late. Every day now seems like a Friday, I have done nothing in the past few days except surf. But the good part is everyone else is doing the same. But I got a new project to do so I better find out how to do it. Everyone else is off except me this holiday (figuratively speaking). Everyone seems to be leaving too. The R&D manager retired yesterday. Kind of sad, I was hoping to get a good recommendation from him, although it's not going to happen now that he's gone.

Another weekend looms, and I still have bought no Christmas presents, have not finalized any Christmas plans either. Gonna be totally different this year, celebrating as immediate family, not extended family.

oh, they got French too! hooray. Click Here for French

this has got to be the coolest tool ever. Here is my website in German. hahah, so cool

Turns out you can translate any website into different languages. But they are limited in their languages. Google's Translation Tool
This thing is so cool. my website translated into Spanish. I got this from Andrew Ma's blog. View my website in spanish.
Yesterday on 680 News there was a story on the most popular gifts for the Holiday season. Voted #1 was the gift of gift certificates. I can understand why they are popular, I mean people don't want to get others bad gifts, or spend the time finding something that is good, while at the same time in their price range. So the gift certificate satisfies all needs except the criteria of being thoughtful.

I have never been a fan of giving gift certificates. They are not a thoughtful gift by any means. I might as well give them money, since that will not restrict them on the use of the money. It also does not satisfy any of the "ohhhh" factors. Meaning it does not stir any reactions. If one were to get a gift certificate, they would just be like "oh, it's a gift certificate, thank-you.". Rather than if some thought was put into it, and it was truly a good gift, you'd get a reaction like "ohhhhh, this is so nice. thank-you so much".

There are many gifts that I refuse to get people, no matter if it's birthdays, holidays, or any occasion. CDs is one of them. Back in the early 90s, cds were so hot, it was like the most practical gift, get someone a cd, fits the price range, is a nice present, how can you go wrong. I think it is this "comfortable" idea that has made me dislike giving cds. Plus with the age of mp3s, the cd industry is going down, nobody buys cds anymore. But even if that's not true, I don't like giving "ideal" gifts, or "typical" gifts. This is because they become so typical, that some may start thinking they are not thoughtful anymore.

Another one of those gifts is Body Shop things. Soap, maybe it's because I'm Chinese, and I don't think many Chinese people take baths. Body shop gifts always become recycle gifts anyways, so why bother?

One of the most popular gifts these days are picture frames. And I don't blame this. There are some really nice picture frames out there, expecially the ones made by Umbra. Now some people like picture frames, but they have become increasingly ideal as well. Now I might still give this type of gift, however it's on the border of being bad now. The thing is there are so many nice ones out there, and the price has become so that it's not worth it to buy for yourself, but giving away as a present it's okay.

There is this stereotype that if you have money, and lots of it, that it becomes so much easier to buy a gift. This is because nice things do not come cheap, and if you have money to spend, then there is no reason to pinch your buck. But the only problem is, if you have money, your friends may have money too. And the richer you are, the more things you have. Thus making it harder to get a gift, because the person many already have the gift your thinking of.

So if anybody got any of these gifts from me, then my apologies. With the exception of the picture frames, it probably wasn't my idea. If you got a picture frame from me, I'm sure it's a nice picture frame.=)

Lots has happened these days. Let me start with what I did last Friday. So I went to the company Christmas Party. It was helled at the Hilton Suites (formerly known as the Embassy Suites). The food was excellent, the DJ wa very good too. He was funny, played good games, and had good music. I brought a friend of mine with me, and we were talking about how we find older men snce better than young guys. I find this interesting actually, cause you'd think it's anything but. However, if you rate it with different kinds of music, it's totally true. I think it's the fact they have less of a male ego. But whatever it is, I should get some tips or something. hehe

There was a study last week that I heard about on 680 News. The study did this survey of British women. There were a bunch of questions, and the one that I remember is "Would you sleep with your boss to get a promotion?" A whopping 25% of British women said they would do so. I was astounded to hear this. It was so surprising that there are actually people like that in the world. My goodness, what si this world getting to? If I got beaten for a promotion by some women who slept with the boss, I would be emabrassed of this company. Shocking.

I finally bought ice skates this past Thursday. I went to National Sports on tuesday and looked at ome skates. The associate told me these Nike skates that were on sale for $99 were gonna go on sale for $89 on Thursday, so I said, okay, then I guess I'll be back Thursday. I got there at open time on Thursday at 12PM. And there were already tons of people inside. Don't you people have to go to work? Some dad got his daughter out of school to go buy skates, can you believe it? anyways, bought these nice Nike Skates regular price $230, for $89, sweet deal. I used them yesterday when I went to play hockey. I gotta learn how to stop.

Alright, it's getting late. I have something on my mind I want to write about, but I think it'll be a few weeks before I talk about it. In the meantime, I'll find other stuff that I come across.

Funny story to tell. I was going to write this yesterday night, but I forgot.

Anyways, so I was drivnig home yesterday night, driving down the 404. So I usually take the right most lane, to try and gain some time. Anyways, so ahead of me I see this car suddenly turn several lanes onto the side of the highway. I was thinking, oky, so something must be wrong with his car. I saw the guy got out, go on the other side of the car. As I approached the car, I saw the guy standing facing away from traffic. He was standing about two metres away from his car with his back to the cars. He was taking a piss on the side of the road in plain sight. That was so disgusting, I don't want to see some guy going to the washroom. My goodness, if yo seriously cannot wait, and you don't think that's wrong, at least try and hide yourself. This guy didnt' care at all, in plain sight with nothing around him but air. some people.
So end of last week my mom told me I got a call from one of my former collegues at CIBC. She was the team leader of our group, and then went onto a higher position after I left in another part of the company. We have tried to keep in touch, but it has been hard in doing so. Anyways, she called me last week out of the blue when I was not at home, and left a number for me to call her back at. After a week of trying to reach her, I finally got a hold of her at worklast night. She invited me to her house for a Christmas party with several other past and present colleagues. So I was thinking, that would be nice. Then she told me it was a semi-formal event, and I was like, I don't want to dress up again. And then I heard some of the attendees, and suddenly I am overwhelmed by the people that are coming. These are people that are not my equal, they are making at least double what I am making, and are all Managers/senior Managers, and Directors. And here I am some little guy who is not even finished school. Suddenly things start crossing my mind as to how I will fit in. And I think, can I have conversation with these people, I only know some of the well enough to carry on a conversation. So what keeps on my mind is that this is an opportunity for me to connect with people, and try and develop contacts for my future. But is this wrong?

I am thinking this kind of defeats the purpose of the party, when probably the intention is for fun and seeing people. Whereas here I am going with a purpose, to try and find myself some contacts in the future. I think this is kind of bad that I go in there with motives other than the purpose. But who can blame me, I am not as established as probably all there, I am much younger than all of them there, probably by a good 12-20 years. And my future is still up in the air, who can blame me. I guess I'll find out when it's done

My company Christmas party is dumb too. I am only going cause it's proabably good food, and nothing else. I'm not paying for it, so it's me and a guest, so I invited one of my good friends. But I also have to dress up for this. Which is not a big problem, but a hassle I could do without. I don't necessarily want to dance there or anything, but hey, it's free food, at a nice place, why not?

Something I was thinking in the car was about referrals. There was this show on tv earlier this season, I don't remember it's name. Basically it was with three pretty girls, who just graduated law school and are working in this law firm. So one of the episodes (it has since been cancelled, too bad, I thought it was good) had one of the girls go to this lawyer who left the profession in disgrace many years back. So she made him realize he still had a passion for the profession and asked her to refer her in her firm, so he can get back into the business. She refused to refer him because she felt he was not a good referral, and it would ruin her reputation. This is because this guy was a recovering alcoholic. So I was thinking to myself, if someone needed a referral from me in the future, would I actually think about whether I would refer, or would I just do it? I think this lawyer girl made a good decision, because this guy was not a good referral, and by referring, you say this is a good candidate for a job, even though he isn't. I never really thought about the severity of referrals, but now I think, hmm, I need to make sure people would refer me. But then I ask, am I good referral? I think I need to think about this more, and make sure I don't give off the wrong impressions. Impressions at my age are so important.

Alright, no more time at work, I'll write some more when I have more time. Tonight no Men's group because everyone seems to have work. So Happy Thanksgiving!

This weekend was pretty good actually. I went out with Justin to watch Die Another Day. I thought it was pretty good actually, although I think if there was slightly more talk, and less action, it would have been better. It seemed as though almost every scene was an action sequence. But all in all it was pretty good.

So I was listening to the radio last week and they were talking about five regrets people have the most. So they did this survey, and they came up with the top five list. I forgot one of them, but the others are:
- not finishing HS
- getting married
- not staying at previous job
- no time with family
I find this very interesting, expecially the getting married one. I thought it was kind of funny actually how all these people felt getting married was a regret. I hope their spouse do not know this. But then I also wonder even if they do regret getting married, if they want a divorce, or separation. I bet that even though they say this, they would not separate if given the opportunity. Now why is this? I think it's because saying is oene thing, but doing is the other. THey may have children, so they cannot separate because of the children.

Another one I find interesting is the one where they say they do not spend enough time with their family. I bet this is so true all around the world, because this world is so fast paced, and you almost always have to be working to be productive. But then I also ask myself, will I have the same regret? Will I find myself surrounding myself in work to the point I don't spend enough time with my children (asssuming one day I have children). I have a feeling my work will consume me, because I think that's thr type of person I just am. Put all my effortn into my work, in order to feel busy and productive. I actually find this kind of scary, I mean if I know it now, why can I not change? I have no answer for this.

A perfect example is my fantasy sports teams. I spend so much time on this stuff. It consumes my time. At work I go look at like about 1.5 times an hour. And nothing changes, but I will only feel better if I look at least once an hour. But is this dedication to fantasy healthy? I think it's doing no good for me, making me more competitive, causing unnecessary competition. Although I will not stop, because it's fun, and something to do.

So last week at Men's group, we had ourselves a dilemma at the beginning. we booked one room but we needed two. So the dilemma is "Do we just go take another room?", or "Do we just stick withb one room?". On one side, we have the argument of not taking it, because we did not book another. Nobody knows we are in there, so what's to say if something went wrong, we wouldn be safe. And also, is it ethical to just take another room without signing it out, I mean what does that say about Christians, do we just take whatever we want? However, on the other side is what's so wrong with just taking another room? I mean it's not big deal if we just use it, and if it's booked by someone else, worst case we leave.

So this argument went on for a good few minutes. However, what I feel is true, it may not look good on our part fortaking it, however I don't see a big problem with it. I thinknif need be, why not. The probability of something going wrong is low, so it won't hurt. I acknowledge what it may say about me, however I don't see many pepople doing differently. I think majority of people if in that situation, will do the same thing. But I also acknowledge that if someone is not confortable with it, then I would not do it. It simply is not worth the effort in convincing. But what do you think about this? It's not a big deal, but does it make a difference?

I went to the Raptors game on Sunday. It was my first time being in the ACC, it's not amazing I wouldn't say, but a nice experience. The game was just okay, was not an amazingly tight race where your on the edge of your seats watching leads change hands. But the one thing I noticed in watching it live is I miss the tv commentators. I need the talk and statistics and comparisons. PLus, the seats are kind of narrow, soI find it not as comforable obviously. I found the game rather quiet. Like the game would start again and I wouldn't know until after play has started. That's where tv comes in handy, cause you cna tell when commercials are over. ah well, it was a good trip.

Alrite, I listed a few things in yesertday's post, and I'l just take them one at a time with the new topics today too.

There was this Article I saw in Yahoo! that intrigued me. It talked about an asteroid to one day hit Earth and abolish earth. The end of the world. This sounds like it's out of a movie man, who here has seen Armageddon or the other one, don't remember it's name. They both came out at about the same time, and had the same storyline, some asteroid going to hit earth, and people are going out to save Earth. But the thing with this article that caught my eye was they don't expect this to happen until another 30,000 years. Like I am thinking, who cares. Do you know how many lifetimes that is from now. If anyone in this world is actually scared about this, they are crazy. They're gonna die way before this will actually happen. Heck, I bet is this asteroid is actually travelling in space, it's probably even too far for anyone here to actually do anything. Things in space travel very fast, and if it's gonna take 30,000 years to get here, then there is probably no way we can even get to it to prevent this occurence now.

It was announced a few days ago that the Montreal Expos will be playing baseball in Puerto Rico next year. I personally think this is a great idea, even though it means the dismantling of a Canadian team. I personally don't want to see the Expos die, because that just means Toronto is not far behind. However, I do think expanding into Latin America is a good idea. Many of the players already come from Puerto Rico, so there is a huge market for baseball down there. And there is a lot of money to be made too.

It doesn't matter anyways, have you seen the attedance at Olympic Stadium in Montreal? They have a hard time just getting 8000 people to show up a night. If the Quebecois won't support their team, then get support somewhere else. They got some great players playing there, and it's a shame. I would say their team is probably better than the Blue Jays even. But the same can be said about the Blue Jays. There is no support unless they are competing. So I have a feeling when I have kids, the Blue Jays will no longer be around unfortunately.

Did everyone hear about the outrageous night Yao Ming had last night? 30 pts, 16 rebs, 1 block. That is an amazing night for the "Great Wall". I hope this means something special is going to happen, some turn around. I think this turnaround is needs to rely on Steve Francis to work. He is the PG, and he needs to give the ball to Yao. Let's see what happens over the course of the year. This is a big step in building relations with China and US, or NBA.

alrite, I'm gonna get back to work. Some notes below on my next topics so that I do not forget.

-->Five regrets: not finishing HS, getting married, not staying at previous job, no time with family,
-->Does fantasy pools promote bad vibes? Too dedicated?
-->Taking another room without signing it out, is that ethical?

Time goes by so fast. In the last two weeks, I have visited Waterloo and Western campuses. I must say they are similar, however I did get to see more of Western than Waterloo. From what I hear, Western is celebrating 125 years of existence. That's pretty impressive I think, doesn't compare to the 175 UofT is celebrating, however does come close. Compared to Waterloo which is from what I hear, about 50 years old. The Waterloo buildings probably don't have as much history as the other two Universities, and even though it is newer, it must have come in at an architectural low time. Because I must say the buildings look boring and ugly. They looks depressing I think. However, comparitively, Western has some that look the same, however they also have some much older buildings that look nice like UT. UT is just old, however the buildings look so much nicer even though they are old. They probably came in when the look of buildings mattered.

I have been feeling rather busy lately. I had imagined mytime off from school would give me the time to do the things I never got to do, however that is far from the truth. I have been even busier now than when I was in school. I guess the difference is when I get home, I have no homework, and also I don't have the time in between classes to do other stuff as well. Because when I'm at work, it's all work, nothing else.

Many things are happening in the news these days. There is an oil tanker in the Atlantic that has broken in half, and is expected to put tons and tons of petro oil into the ocean. This is said to be the worst environmental hazard ever. Seriously, this is pretty big, Imean fishlife as we know it is dead because of this. They say petro oil is pretty hard to break down as opposed to crude oil, which would not cause as much of an environmental hazard. I would stay away from fish for the next while, this could be entirely dangerous.

I watched 8 Mile last week. This is the movie with Eminem. I guess the movie itself was not that bad. I never had a great appreciation for rap, but I guess if you are able to just understand what the story is about, then you will be able to appreciate the movie. He has a lot of controversy obciously, but if you don't look at him like the person, but the actor, then it's good. I was impressed with how the story is done, and the lyrics and rap tht goes with it. I was having some trouvle interpreting it at the bginning, but as the movie went on, I was able to understand the lyrics.

From what I hear in ET, they talk about how Eminem shoed a different side to himself in the movie, a soft side. They say now he's gonna have a hard time going back to his normal music.

There has recently been so much news about Paul Christie, appointed supervisor of the Toronto District School Board. His job was to balance the books, and find $90 million somewhere to over shortfalls. Well, he did his job, but not without the anger of many many parents and people. I don't know all the details of his job, bu7t I feel sorry for him. He must have like the worst job in the world, besides his paycheque. Seriously, no matter what he does, he will be hated. There is not one thing he can do that will satisfy anyone. I guess that is why he is paid so much.

Funny story, I walked into the washroom today to wash my hands at work. I hear this guy talking, son I suppose he's talking to some other guy in there. He was in the stall, and I saw no one else there, although it'd kind of weird for two guys talking between stalls. But no, he was talking on his cell phone. He was probably wailing away at a customer or something, talking about product releases and stuff, from what I heard. Man, that is disgusting, talking in the stall is bad enough.

I have some other stuff I want to talk about, but don't feel like writing more, so I'll leave a note here so I can remind myself.

Today I went to work early. I got to work at 8AM and let me tell you, traffic was so much better at this time. I got to work in about 35 mins as opposed to the normal 50 it takes when I leave at 8:30. I guess people start later than I thought.

The verdict for the Wynona Ryder case is in, and she's guilty of two of the three counts. That means she could face up to three years in prison. This is all becuase she stole about $5500 of clothing from Saks fifth Avenue. Now many predict she will get off easy by doing community service, or something like that. Even the DA says themselves that they will not pursue the jail time.

Now is this based on popularity, cause she's a star? Or does this happen with most cases like this? I cannot but assume she is getting the star treatment. Look at all these stars who get off easy. OJ, Hugh Grant, Robert Downey (although he's committed so often it's starting to catch up). This is totally unfair treatment. What is the sense in the law if it has a double standard. If I were a lawyer, every time one of my clients does something like a high profile case like this, I'd use it to my advantage. But I'm sure lawyers are well aware of this, and don't need me telling them.

Some political news. The senate race in the US was this week. Today in the news, Florida county finds 103,00 "LOST" votes. What is with thos voting process that is so hard for the states to understand? Wasn't it just like last year or something for the presidential race that the same thing happened. All this controversy of counting votes. And I think it was also in Florida that this happened too. Do all the retirees and Mickey Mouse not know how to vote or count? You'd think after one big controversy they'd shape up their voting process and make things better. Useless.

BIG NEWS: At the Royal Ontario Museum, on display this Saturday Nov 15 until Dec 23 is the James Ossuary box. This box is thought to contain the remains of James, the brother of Jesus.

The recently-discovered James Ossuary is scheduled to be placed
on exhibit in the ROM's Mediterranean World Feature Exhibition Gallery by Saturday, November 15, 2002 and remain until Sunday, December 29, 2002.

"The ROM is honoured to receive the James Ossuary such a short time after its discovery,"stated William Thorsell, Director and CEO of the ROM. "We are delighted to be the first museum to display it and bring forward the various expert theories regarding its religious significance and archaeological history."

The James ossuary is a mid-first century C.E. limestone box believed by some scholars to have contained the bones of James, brother of Jesus. Its existence was announced in the Biblical Archeology Review on Oct. 21 in Washington, D.C., and made headlines around the world. [Go here for details]

This sounds so interesting. It was not long ago that I heard about this box on the news and now it's on display in Toronto. Cool stuff.

Marriage
I have been thinking of this recently as well. I think it's because one of my cousin's just got married last weekend and it's gotten me thinking. She is the first of my cousin's to get married, so this means we're all wondering whose next?

I have been thinking of myself, and I wonder when I'll get married. I look at myself, and I'm 21 now. Obviously this is way too young to get married, so for all you girls out there, I'm gonna turn you down if someone proposes to me. hahahaha. I think I want to get married before I am 28, or when I am 28. I don't want to get married too late. But I figure, if all things work out, by then I should be out of school for a while, working for a while, and being relatively stable with my money.

But I think by the time I turn 30, it seems kind of late. I look at some of the people I know who are in their 30s and I can't believe how many people bother them about getting married. From parents to friends, everyone is always talking about it."When you gonna getmarried?", "Have you been seeing anybody?", "Your still not married?" These questions I suspect can get really annoying, I don't want to go through it.

I think I want to get married by 28, because it's still a while from now that I can find my somebody. But it's not too long either, that I will have to wait a long time. Cause once you hit the big 3-0, you'll never stop hearing about it.

Maybe I'm thinking too far, I tend to do that to myself, think about the future too much. I always think, "oh, in the future, I can....". Maybe I should worry about right now first.

I originally wrote this blog and the previous one together, but I figured I'd separate them because they really are two different things.
I was thinking about "sickness" recently. I think this because one of my good friends has been sick for a while. A little too long is what I think. I know this person reads my blog, so if your offended in any way, tell me, and I'll take anything off you want.

So what I've been thinking is when you get some minor sickness, one of the best ways to make yourself better other than drugs is just getting out to get fresh air. I think this is a good way to relieve sickness because by getting out, you subject yourself to the environment and fresh (as good as it can get when it's free) air. Most sicknesses I think stem from your body not being able to fight off the virus, meaning no anti-bodies. Like we get flu shots that should fight the flu virus should we come in contact with it.

But say a co-worker or close friend has a cold, and you are around them a lot, then most likely you have increased your possibility of getting sick. But many times you do not get sick because your immune system is able to resist the sickness.

Probably if you have a cold or something like it, probably staying in the house all the time is not so good for you because it's like your in a closed environment and everything around you already has your germs, you'll never get better.

Sometimes things are just in your head as well. Like say you feel a little sick, and then you keep on telling yourself your sick. Or you do something that is out of norm, and then you say to yourself, well, I'm sick so that's why. Like why all the excuses? Don't be limiting yourself to thing just because you feel a little sick. Cause the more you think you are sick, the more you probably will get sick. It's like a mind game, you keep on telling yourself something, sooner or late you'll start believing it or it will come true.

Mind you I have no medical background, have read no journals, papers, or listened to any medical talks. this is just me spilling what I think. I might have used some incorrect terms, so don't mind me, I just don't know what I'm talking about, that's all.

So my suggestion when you feel a little sick, rest up for a day or two and then get off your behind and get out and enjoy life. Do what you usually do, and don't think your sick, cause then you'll just feel worse.
