I remember way back when I was in elementary school we had this project where we had to build a case for federal parties on who would win. This was the beginning of my interest with politics and wanting to know about it.
Does this mean I will be your new local politician running in my own riding of Mississauga South, probably not, but wouldn't that be cool, to be running for a party?
Anyways, so today I watched my first debate in a while and I was thoroughly amused. I watched on Rogers Tv cable 10 (who really watches this channel) the debate of the candidates in my local riding.
First, my riding like most ridings is painted red, not communist, but Liberal. My MP is names Paul Szabo.
Paul Szabo (Liberal):
I went to school with one of his children when I was in high school, and I won't state my opinion about her, but I'll try to not let that sway my vote.
Let me just show you how is running my my riding, (like really who cares, but what the heck).
| Phil Green (Conservative) | Mark de Pelham (NDP) | Dagmar Sullivan (Marxist Leninist Party) |
Other Candidates:
Brendan Tarry (Green Party)
Paul McMurray (Canadian Action Party)
Anyways, all that I am about to comment on, most of it is either my opinion, or taken directly from CBC website
So the Marxist-Lenninist Party was not represented in the debate that I watched, but all other parties were. I am really surprised how young some of the candidates are, specifically really Brendan Tarry (Green Party) and Mark de Pelham (NDP). Actually Mark was the one who impressed me the most out of all of them, he's only 25, one year older than myself. Yet this guy was poised, well spoken, and succinct when necessary. But get this, he ran for the MARIJUANA PARTY in 2004 in Calgary. I could not believe this. I am going to have to seriously reconsider whether I want to even consider NDP now.
This debate was really comical though. What was funny was all the jabs they each took at each other, the comments they made as well. For example, Paul Szabo recently became a grandfather, he was gracious enough to tell us that during his final speech and relating this buy telling me the children are the future. Thanks Paul, why didn't you sing the song as well?
Brendan Tarry, he amused me by congratulating the Canadian Junior Hockey Team during his final speech. And then Mark made this sarcastic comment (a jab at Brendan) about how Hockey is the most important thing to talk about during elections. hahaha. And don't get me started with this Paul McMurray guy, I could not stand listening to this guy. He was a horrible speaker, never answered the questions, and was always over his time limit. Get him off the stage, I'd like to head Dagmar, get here there instead cause I really want to know what a Marxist Leninist Party wants to do for the country. I mean, don't you want to know?
And this Phil guy, he wore a shirt that should be illegal, it looks like a colour pallatte from Colour Your World. and he took a jab at Paul Szabo during his final speech by quoting Szabo and then Szabo interupted him, hilarious stuff here on television. They must really think no one is watching them. And the best, Mark referred to Paul McMurray's party in his final speech as the National Action Party. Buddy, get your fact straight, even I know it's Canadian Action Party. Oh, what about how Phil could not say the mayor's name, umm, May,... Mazel, oh, I mean Hazel. It's Hurricane Hazel Phil, she's been our mayor for 35 years!
Oh, how about when Paul Szabo used as his final statement, you can call me at 905-823-0823. Give me a break Paul, I should just call you now and find out what's your story.
And how come Federal Parties do nothave their own email address for each candidate. Some of these small time folks are using a YMCA email address, a hotmail address. How professional is that?
Anyways, I am still on the bench about who to vote. I wonder if there are any other small candidates, like someone with a cool name or who is Chinese?
Anyways, one really good question that was made was what each party intends to do with our nations highly educated taxi cab drivers. (i.e. immigrants who are professionals in their own country coming here and not being allowed to work in their industry.). This question makes me very interested cause I've read several articles about it and I find it almost sad how things turn out.
So Paul Szabo thinks we should provide and accelerated program through Universities for those immigrants to enroll in and gain the same certification here. Phil Green wants to open some centre for them to get information and to help them. Like what does that mean? Oh, I love how one of them (do not remember which one) thinks what we should do is provide a program to make sure all immigrants know what they are qualified over here for before they come. hhahaha, yeah, you are only eligible to drive a taxi cab Dr. Habib. Did you still want to come to the Great White North?
Love how question about same sex marriages is so hot and heavy. Mark said it best, it's dealt with, he is happy with the decision, that's all he has to say. Then Paul Szabo tells me he voted against Bill C-32 (I think that's the number) and he is against what's been passed. And then Phil follows that up with a "I will try to be as succinct as Mark. I totally agree and have the same standpoint as Mr. Szabo. That's all I have to say." Sounds like people jumping aruond questions instead of elaborating to me.
Anyways, despite Mark being pro Marijuana which really I think just speak about some of his credibility, I will consider him becuase I was impressed with him. But after reading Mr. Szabo's profile, I am impressed somewhat to know that he's not sitting on his ass doing nothing. Because sometimes I do wonder what he does, I know he's not a minister of anything, so waht does he do. Now I know =)
Anyways, i have to call Elections Canada, my voting card did not arrive with the rest of my family.
