Holidays

Today is a holiday in Canada, and how great it is. But I don’t think people really understand the meaning of this holiday. Today is Canada Day. This means it’s Canada’s Birthday, Canada turns 135 today!

So how big is a birthday supposed to be? Well, for your birthday, do you want it to be a big thing? I think in general, Canadians don’t really care about this holiday too much, me included. It’s just a good day to relax, and sit back.

If you think about it, Canada is a baby. There are countries with thousands of years of history. Yet, Canada is only 135 years old. But Canada still has a lot of history. But most Canadians don’t know much about it. We faught in both World Wars, some very famous ones won by Canadian soldiers.

Why is Canada not really the celebrating country though? Why is it that when it comes to Canadians, they don’t know much about their country, and not very patriotic (unless it’s hockey)? I think it’s mostly because Canada is a very diverse country. It is made up of many immigrants. Sure, you can argue that say the US is very diverse and many immigrants. But the difference between Canada is US is Canada allows you to keep your identity. They do not try and make you turn into someone you were not before, to make yourself Americanized. Canada allows you to freely practice religions, beliefs, and anything else without scrutiny (to some extent of course). In general they respect freedom and diversity moreso than the US. The US tries to make you Americanized, to embed yourself in their culture, and lose what you left. Whereas Canada wants you to keep your own identity.

Canada is so good to cultures, they got a Little Everything. You name a country, and there is a little part of Toronto like devoted to that country. A Little Italy, Little India, Chinatown, Korean-town.

So here is a good reason why we do not celebrate Canada Day. It’s because most of us are from different cultures/religions. So Canada is a not a big thing, cause you probably have your own country’s birthday to celebrate. Celebrating the birthday of the country you live in is not the biggest priority on your list. Which is fair I think, but I think today should be a reflection on how great this country is, and what it has done for us.

So HAPPY BIRTHDAY CANADA!!!!

Today I had a great time. I went to Kew beach and had some fun. It was great, that place is huge, with tons of volleyball courts. I ended up playing volleyball most of my time there. It was fun, I had not played since grade 8, and in grade 9, we did it in gym, and that was it. That would make it 6-7 years. I think it was okay, I had a great time just playing. The serve was going well for me for most part, other than that it was sporadic playing/sucky. But I still had fun, dove for ball twice/three times, that was fun.

I had folded my pants up once so I would not step on them. I forgot I got sand in them, and so I went to my friend Davin’s place. I took a shower there, and then I was folding my laundry to put in my bag when I noticed all this sand was on the couch. I had forgot to take all sand out of the bottom of pants. Ahahahaha. Sorry Davin, hope your grandma won’t notice I brought the beach to her. Hahahaha

Today’s Current Events:

- You know what, Bin Laden is still on the loose. How can the US not find this guy? I bet they are not even looking hard, they don’t want to find him, or make it known they know where he is
- Raul Mondesi traded to the Yankees
- Garbage still on roads. But Pools to open.
