so it's not like I have a lot of time on my hands today, and it's not like I am tired of stuying today either, although I've done some, not tired of it yet today. IO am just geneally wasting time.
I've been caught in the oblivion of school lately, more busy than I ever exepcted. Late night sin the computer labs, late nights in the halls of Bahen studying, so much that the cleaning ladies know us all too well now. I've tried to gegt ahead on all those millions of assignments, but in a lot of the cases I am working all the way til the end. Funny story actually, so all fourth year ECE had a progress report due last Friday for their design (thesis) project. I had finished mine, had a few fixups here and there in the morning, but didn't do much that day to the report. So come around 2:30, I had been studying all morning in the BA hall, so I opened my laptop, and started playing Spider Sollataire. This girl walking around looking for a table to use (we had acquired a few of them for our use and our laptops) comes around and sees me playing sollotaire. hahaha. She says to me, everyone around here is frantically trying to finish their report and here you are paying sollotaire. hahah. well, one needs their rest too I said.
Last nigth after I came hoem from the library,, I checked my mail. got my first rejction today from an actual possibiloty. By actual possibilioty I mean I had an interview with them, so it was that much closer. So no second interview for me. I can handle all the rejctions coming with no interview whatsoever, but when you have an interview with them, and then they turn you down, it hurts a little more. I tried not to think about it too much after the interview, because I did not want tog et my hopes up. Two years ago applying for PEY (internships), I had gotten my hopes up for this one job so much that I went through this period of depression I felt of not getting it. So I tried not to this time. And so now I'm thiking, well, God probably does not want me there, He has other plans for me.
But is it bad to think this? The reason I say this is because all too often we always bring what happens to us back to God. When something good happens, "Oh God was looking out for me, He provided for me." Or when something bad happens "I guess god did not want this for me, he has other plans for me.", or even worse "Why did God not give this to me? I wanted it so bad?' I feel sometimes all too often we use God as a default of things happening. And certanily it's not like the worst thing in the world, God does know all, and he does have a plan. But then we have some control too, no? I know this is kind of contradictory somewhat, but it's like, should we always be resting all our life occurences back to God? God did not want this to happen, God wanted this to happen, God was looking out for me. God has other plans. I don't know, what do you think?
So back to my job situation, been applying somewhat, the very little I am, and this first rejection kind of hurts. So first real rejection comes atthe hands of Microsoft. That's okay, I'm not all too happy with their software anyways. =)
So yesterday morning I had this phone interview with this other company. Now I can say I don't like phone interviews. I dont' think it went well. This lady talked so fast it made me nervous. I could not even speak english I felt. Anyways, I think this company would be an interesting to work for, it's slightly different from the software driven companies such as Microsoft, or the computer industry related companies like Cisco, IBM, ATI. It's actually in the Mechanical/Maufaturing/Mineral industry. It's a consulting company that provides technology-based solutions. It would be nice I think to have a change, so we'll see what happens come January when they reply back for second interviews.
So yesterday I was washing (actually rinsing) dishes to put in the dishwasher. After that the counter was wet, so I dried it. And the counter next to the stove was really dirty, so I started cleaning it when I noticed there was this really sticky section near the back, so I started washing that. Next thing I know I was cleaning around the stovetops and stuff. And I cleared all the excess stuff around on that counter, and it looked like brand-new. My roommate comes back adn was like, "whoa, what happened here. Someone doesn't want to study." That was true at the timem but I did not do it because I did not want to study, I did it because it was disgustingly dirty. So When she made lunch, I warned her not to make a mess, (becuase she was making it dirty already) and she was like, what mess. I pointed this crumb to her, adn she picked it up and threw it at me. Jeez, trynig to make this apartment more liveable. But it's really been nice living downtown, I enjoy it a lot. Sure some things take some extra time, but I don't mind as long as the time goes to good use.
Here is my last comment of this blog. So I got an email late last week. It was from a friend I respected, a mass email. He was trying to urge people to really understand what Christmas is all about. and to encourage others to do the same thing. Because Christmas has become more of a social thing, a holiday of giving and receiving. A lot of time we don't think back to why we have this holiday, because of Jesus. And although we may realize this, there are millions out there who do not, so it was kind of a challenge to go out and serve the Lord. So here is what I think, all that is true. However, then the same thing can be said about the Ramadan, or Yom Kippur, or Diwali. From our (and I'm using 'our' in the context of Christians, since I am) perspective, we see it as others know knowing what the purpose of Christmas is. But from their (non-Christians), tey see the same thing when their important religious holiday comes around, we (Christians, and everyone else who si not a part of their faith) do not understand their religious holiday.
Last week while studying, I went to heat up my lunch at the International Student Centre. I needed something to read, I read the Varsity and all other campus newspapers, so I picked up this magazine. It was the Muslim Voice. I thought it would be interesting to read what Muslims have to say. And in there they talked a lot about Ramadan. It was the Ramadan season. Muslims fast from dusk til dawn as a means to remind them to not sin. When they are tempted, or in the face of sin, they can be reminded by their hungry stomachs not to sin, not to give in. I think this is an interesting thing actually, as Christians how often do we face sin and give in? I know I do a lot (unfortunate). there was an articiel that was very interesting, a Muslim student wrote this 'mail' item how it's great to see Muslims during Ramadan, how they are so devoted, reading the Koran, and all other uslim activities (unfortunately i cannot rememeber everything), but when Ramadan ends, they go back to their old selves, and forget all they learned through the Ramadan.
Anyways, the point I am trying to make is back to this email I got. I think it's true that many out there do not realize the importance and significance of Christmas, many of them non-Christians. But this is from a Christian perspective. Do we (Christians) understand the religious activites of their (other religions) holidays? Maybe perhaps we should understand them, or make an effort to, before trying to saying they don't understand.
By no means am I saying the email is not warranted, just thinking there are other things to think about as well. And this world is not just about Christians, there are other religions around us too.
