I was driving home today and listening to the radio as I usually do. The song Freshman, a song from 1997 or something was on. I really enjoyed this song when it came out. You have to understand, with me, songs are not about catchy lyrics, it's about catchy tunes. If the tune is nice, I like it. Then I start listening to the words, and it's a toss-up what happens from there, but I'll always like the tune itself.

Anyways, I always thought this song was about thinking back to being freshman, how life passed us by, and learning or soemthing along those lines. I did a google search on the lyrics and it's nothing like that. It's about something bad that happened while they were freshman, smoe girl died I think and they just hung their heads in sorrow. What a fool I am, but I still like the tune.

Anyways, was thinking I was going to blog about my thoughts about the past five years, some things I have learned, and things I have been through that taught me something.

Thinking back on first year what a fool I was. I did one thing right thought, met lots of people and became friends with quite a few of them. I do not usually attract the Chinese crowds so in first year I had a really big micture of frinds from different backgrounds and ethnicities. Had a really big brown crew to hang out with until I realized, wait a minute, I'm the only non-brown around. hahah, okay, was that bad all the time but I do remember thinking something like that once in a while. Nevertheless, they were great people and I am grateful to have met them. Although the ones I knew most, our frinedships did not get past first year too much, still grateful to have met them. One very weird thing happened in third year. I was thinking what a shame it was that I had not developed a friendship with this one guy, Kalpesh. We had a great time in first year but over the years that passed our friendship took a hit. Then that night afetr thinking about him, I saw him on the street. Total coincidence, but was nice. And we went back to normality of nothing.

The one thing in first year that I learn now thinking back, that we are just a bunch of hormone infested teenagers looking for girlsfriends and/or boyfriends. There is no thought about future or anything, just here and now, if I have a girlfriend, and that's only thing that matters. So I got myself a girlfriend. Did not last long but thinking back now I realize how foolish I was. Sure I had a good time then as well, and I learned a lot about myself through our relationship, and then afterwards. Learned how far I strayed from my religion when I was with her, not her fault by any means, just my own priorities were not straight. When we broke up it was hard, and I truly wanted to remain friends, and even to this date we see each other every once in a while and have a time to chat, and I am grateful for that.

Had some time earlier in 2004 to reminisce with some people from my frosh team how cool first year was. Going to Civ101 and a huge crowd up us sitting in the back. How they made us sizzle like bacon during frosh week and running through the fountains at City Hall. Was so much fun man, mind you school was hard but I had a blast in first year.

So that was first year, I can leave now and leave next few years for next posts.
