If there was one thing that was a part of me I don’t think I can lose, this would not be obvious. I think I can live without my hands/arms/legs, I see tons of people do without them everyday, I think I can do it with time. Every morning when I went to school, or when I drive my dad to the station, I see this man who everyday goes several blocks spinning his wheelchair. Seriously, over the road, there is a bridge, tons of traffic, I commend this man every time I see him on his journey during the day. So what else is there? Eyes? Well, I already feel blind, my eyes are so bad. Hearing, well, I go to an ear doctor so I already lost some of that. Which brings me to what I would hate to lose, my taste buds.
I simply cannot live without these, there would be no point to eating anymore. I could eat anything and it would taste the same, it would taste like nothing. There is so much joy to eating, the different taste of food, from McDonalds fries to Ben and Jerry’s Chunky Monkey Ice Cream. How can anyone resist?
So what brought me to thinking all this, well, two things.
One: There is this restaurant a family friend told my family including myself about how this world famous chef Michael Stadtlander operates a restaurant up north south of Collingwood out of his own farm. So this chef, supposedly charges $150 per person and only serves up to 18 people a night for three nights a week. I was like, this is preposterous, who charges that much? But this guy grows his own food. He’s a world class chef, except you know the bigger reputation they get, the smaller portions of food you get. You’d be paying for a slice of veal, with two asparagus’ on top on this big plate all dressed up.
Funny thing, I told my CC group about this while we were there. And then the day after coming back, a group member told me that she read an article about him in The Star. I was like, no way! SO I read the article, it was about a lawsuit he is in with the government. Here’s the article:

So would I ever go, for sure I’d go. When I get myself a nice job, with a nice girlfriend, I’d pay the $300 for a nice dinner. If it’s that good, why not, as long as I don’t lose my taste buds.
Another reason I brought this whole thing up was this news I heard on I think 48 Hours tonight. I didn’t actually sit through the story, I just heard the headline. It was taking about how guys now are bulimic/anorexic in order to live up to figures of men seen in media. I was thinking to myself, this happens to guys too? I thought it was just a girl thing? Obviously I am too naïve to know this also happens to men. And I guess it’s kind of true. So I did some research on the story on the website and read the story. After reading the story, I have a whole new perspective on the issue. I think it can totally happen to guys too.
Since anorexia and bulimia is more about self confidence issues than anything else, guys these days also have problems with self confidence. Too often do we want a better body, just to feel more in shape. Those guys on the cover of Men’s Health, sorry, I can’t live up to that. Although I try to work out, and become more active, it has not helped much. I spent the whole summer working out last summer and gained a total of 12 pds, and it took me two weeks to lose about 10 of that. Not because I wanted to, just the change in lifestyle once school started. I stopped going to gym, and I just lost it all. So I can’t help it if I’m all bone, tall skinny guy. It’s just the way I am.
So as I continue to eat and utilize my taste buds for everything I can get out of them, savouring the taste of Marche’s fresh baked Muffins in the morning from BCE place to the Prime Rib served at Embassy Suites, who care about what happens to me afterwards. Let me enjoy my food!
